The Meltdown - Introduction

What is melt down? For any thing to melt down it should be a solid like ice melting down as water or due to extreme heat and boiling the solid becomes liquid and eventually becomes gas.. It was the greaat glacial ice meltdown which happened in paleocene era that made the entire flora and fauna to become extinct in a sheet of ice and changed them to fossils.

Mother earth has some ingenious ways of destruction. Fire, famine, act of gods are some of them. Other major perils include terrorism, riots, nuclear and war perils..

Reckless use of natural resources, industrialisation resulting in non-bio degradeable wastes, release of toxic wastes and pollutants, ireversible depletion of energy etc are already pushing mankind towards a catastrophe..

Mismanagment due to unending greed has now added a new peril which is Financial Meltdown.

There are straight forward method of improving the wealth by value addition. They include mineral exploration and industrialisation, agriculture and human resorces.

These are conventional and do not bring in dramatic results. So you start dealing in shares by progressively assigning artificial/ficticious values and indulge in buying and selling. Create hype about an existing or a start up company and fix up a huge price for the shares. Get them over subscribed and decamp the money by selling the company to some foreign investor....
Start trading on commodities like "Haldi" and "Kum Kum" hoard these commodities in warehouses and create more demand in the market. Increase the prices and make profit.

Another funny and unhealthy trend is patents. You patent even a generic product like neam leaves!

There is wonderful thing like credit cards... you issue credit cards to even beggers... and lend them money... The receivables(?) become one source for the banks to borrow money from Financial organisations!

Then you have Credit Default Swaps! You offer loans on the strength of the Shares certificates of the clients... and these receivables are pledged to some financial institutions who will lend money to the banks..!

This is known as the "Going Concern" concept in Accounting Practice! yeah.... yours and my concerns are going... and so are the banks and institutions... going out of the scene!

Enjoy the melt down!

Role play or case study method in Education!

Those days in mid 70s students used to joke about the practicals in colleges, especially in Engineering colleges. In Engineering colleges there used to be Projects for final year students wherein 4 or 5 batchmates would be given one project to do. They have to spend some money and lot of time and manhours to finish the project, spiral bind the thesies and submit it before deadlines.

Boys staying in hostel would tell funny stories about how the boys used to milk lot of money from their poor parents. It used to be a joke that an Agriculture student wrote to his parents that nowa days technology has improved and for the practicals it is not enough to buy bullocks but they require funds for buying a Tractor!

This method of practicals or project or role play has become the norm of today's education system right from kindergarten..

I have been seeing the spate of project works my chidren have to do since so many years now which is still unabated. Many times the parents are involved and often the project works had to be carried in vehicle as children cannot handle them.

The children also have become atuned to this project work or practicals or role play method. But the flip side of it is what i could watch a couple of days ago in TV.....

In a law college in down south in India, it appeared that the students were to learn the law by actually committing crime within the campus. There was rivalry in doing this method of study between two distinct group.

Yeah.. on a given day one set of boys armed with crow bars, sticks and iron rods chased the rival group members and thrashed them mercilessly. Police force was summoned by the Principal to the campus...

But our Police force are the most sincere and law abiding simpletons in uniform.. They have learnt the rules and the regulations and that is why they had to be like goats reaching the riverlets, after reaching on to the scene where this murdourous attacks and madness were going on, could not cross the "Lakshman Rekha" and had to helplessly watch these blood hungry students brutally attacking the fellow(albeit a rival group) students.

The law college students have learnt their law by this excellent practice! That they have committed crime under 302 and many more sections... and, also gained valuable practical lesson as to how to commit a crime in front of a huge police force and get away with it....

The students were very clever in planning the attack within the campus so that police force should take a special permission separately to enter in to the college, even if the college authorities summon them specifically for this problem!

Now our nehtas will have to take a call as to whether they should allow the law to take its 'own course' or protect the "misguided youths"

They will conclude that this is a process of growing up or blame it on the educational system?

In future we could hear more such weird thing happening... such as in Biology lab, because cockroaches and frogs are not readily available, teachers can be dissected.. and many more that anyone's imagination can fail.
World will listen to the counsellors-astute!
